About Mahkota
A practice built for people who run their own businesses
We started Mahkota because small business owners in Malaysia often face real decisions without a steady, thoughtful voice nearby. We are that voice.
Back to HomeOur Story
Mahkota began with a simple observation
When Azman Hashim founded Mahkota in 2017, he had spent fifteen years watching capable small business owners make avoidable decisions — not for lack of intelligence, but for lack of a reliable sounding board. Banks spoke in products. Accountants spoke in compliance. What owners actually needed was someone who would sit with them, listen patiently, and think things through together.
Mahkota was built to fill that space. Based at Wisma Central in Kuala Lumpur, we work with owners across Malaysia in retail, hospitality, professional services, and trade. Some arrive in the middle of a difficult decision; others simply want a clearer view of where their business stands.
We are a small practice by design. That keeps our attention focused and our counsel unhurried. Every engagement is personal, and every conversation is held in confidence.
Our Mission
To give small business owners in Malaysia access to the same quality of advisory thinking that larger firms take for granted — without the formality, the jargon, or the pressure.
Our Approach
We listen before we speak. We ask questions before we suggest answers. And we work at the pace that suits you, not the pace that suits a billing clock.
Our Values
Honesty, patience, and discretion. We tell owners what we actually observe — including the things that are harder to hear — always with care.
The People
Who you will be working with
Our practice is deliberately small. You will always work with a named advisor, not a rotating team.
Azman Hashim
Founder & Lead Advisor
Fifteen years in operational and strategic roles across Malaysian SMEs. Azman leads most engagements personally and is the primary point of contact for long-term clients.
Siti Rahimah
Operations & Process Advisor
A specialist in operational clarity for owner-run businesses, Siti works with clients on pricing, internal process, and team structure. She brings a calm, methodical eye to practical problems.
David Chong
Client Relations & Scheduling
David ensures that each client's experience is smooth from first contact to final session. He handles all scheduling, correspondence, and practical arrangements with care and efficiency.
Our Standards
How we keep our work sound
These are not policies written for a website. They are the habits and commitments that govern every engagement.
Complete Confidentiality
All client information is held in strict confidence and never shared with third parties. Engagement files are retained only as long as necessary and then securely removed.
Written Clarity
Every engagement produces clear written output — a summary, a plan, or a set of noted observations. Nothing important is left as a verbal impression that could fade.
Ongoing Development
Our advisors stay current with developments in the Malaysian SME environment, regulatory landscape, and practical business management through regular reading and peer exchange.
Conflict of Interest Policy
We do not accept referral fees, commissions, or any payment from third parties related to our clients' affairs. Our advice is shaped by what we observe, not by what we stand to gain.
Honest Feedback Culture
We encourage clients to tell us when our input has not been useful. That kind of direct exchange helps us adjust and improves the quality of the work for everyone involved.
Timely, Consistent Follow-Through
Written summaries are delivered within five working days of each session. We keep our commitments on time, and we let clients know promptly if circumstances change.
Our Expertise
Business advisory for owners who think carefully
Mahkota works with small business owners across Kuala Lumpur and Malaysia who want thoughtful, grounded advisory support. We do not sell programmes or methodologies. What we offer is attentive, experienced thinking, applied directly to your specific situation.
Owner-run businesses face a particular kind of decision-making challenge. The business is often closely tied to the owner's personal finances, reputation, and daily energy. Decisions cannot be made with the detachment that a corporate environment allows. They require someone who understands that complexity — and who will respect it rather than smooth over it.
Our advisors bring experience across retail operations, service businesses, pricing and margin management, team structure, customer experience, and the practical realities of running a small business in the Malaysian market. We are familiar with the pressures that owners in Kuala Lumpur and the wider region face — including the particular dynamics of family businesses, sole traders, and first-generation entrepreneurs.
We keep our practice small so that the quality of attention we offer does not diminish. When you work with Mahkota, you receive considered, senior-level thinking across the full duration of your engagement — not a handover to a junior once the first meeting is over.
